HOPES 13 Tentative date April 13th. Must reserve with the ASUO. Will discuss themes at the retreat.

RETREAT Looks like it might be Lost Valley again. Maitreya too small. Email Kaylee topics you would like to discuss. Ideas: getting to know you games and trust games. Must finish planning.

ADVISORY BOARD POTLUCK Everyone bring a dish, whatever you like. We will most likely be meeting in Lawrence. Don’t know where yet.

1. Retreat Planning (Kaelee)- Sustainable Living Retreat Center in Cottage Grove. Focus on Sustainable Living. No Food, no retreat center. Could go on a tour and then do a work program. We would bring our own lunches or we could go to the Cottage Restaurant. Approvecho. 30 miles away. Lost Valley is just a little closer, near Dexter. Dan: if we want to be productive then use a place with rooms. If the goal is to just get to know each other, then maybe it does not matter and we could just be outside and have fun. John: Last year went well- we spent the first half doing work. Could we have more control over the timing? Also we seemed so distant. Could we do more trust-building early on? Tracy- We should go rafting. Chris agrees. The date: Weekend of May 10th and 11th. One day only. Saturday is preferred. Be thinking about activities. Email Kaelee kpearson@uoregon.edu.

2. HOPES 13 Easter is April 8. April 12-15. Think about collaboration for SBSE and ELAW

Inspiring HOPES moments:

Jonathan: very young insightful kids at kids' HOPES, understanding intuitively about gravity's affect on water catchment

Duff was alcohol monitor, JD was bouncer. Duff said "I get it." "What do you get?" "Sustainability. I can go for a multi-million dollar sustainable project in Africa."

Dan Goldstein: how great to talk with Frances Bronet, Sergio Palleroni and give feedback as a student about what they could do to support us more.

Jessica: we are a resource for sustainability to the AAA school. Duff has been appointed to pursue this and has been talking with us.

Sebastien: a lot of people came up to tell me thanks for bringing such inspiring speakers. It brought back that this was a chance to educate our educators. I didn't know how powerful it would be and it was worth it to see all the people whose eyes lit up after hearing a great speaker.

The TUESDAY BEFORE HOPES!

We are almost there. We just have to show up.

Need to go over expectations but not everyone is here yet.

Need to clarify Keynote introductions Ban - Kaarin Penny - Jonathan Cook Christine and Sarah- SRake Sergio - Howard Scott- Danny

Danny - Event Services: There are people that are doing all the AV stuff, party, Leed WS, Gerlinger. We should charge the LEED people. $1100 for all this. CLegg has volunteered to do 4 of the keynotes: all but shigeru ban. What about a podcast? we need a mixing board. it would be cool. Peter and Clegg will headline this.

  1. Approval of minutes from last meeting.
  2. Overview of ridiculously long agenda—two hours+, so be ready!
  3. HOPES CONFERENCE UPDATE
    1. Jess announcement: tell all panelists not to print materials
    2. Lance Hosey cancellation; Sebastien seeking new Sunday keynote. See Seb if you have any suggestions/ideas.
    3. Accommodations update: Excelsior Inn giving us a discount ($79/89 each)
    4. Speaker and Panelist worksheets—due back by Wednesday, April 5
    5. Recap outdoor event locations for Conference
    6. TWIGS workshop update—assembly this Saturday and Sunday, 1:00-4:00 in LA 141; TWIGS will form the promenade between Pacific and Lawrence. Installation will happen Tuesday 10:00am-1:00pm and 8:00-10:00pm. Meet in front of LA.
    7. Other HOPES art installations: deteriorating clay sculpture; John’s minimal dwelling installation; HOPES marker wall/banner.

Sunday, April 16th Air-Port Pick-ups, Can anyone do Thursday at noon? Andrew can. Chris will do Sunday morning pick-up.

Air-Port Drop-offs, these people need to get back.

Shell, new keynote for Sunday, his flight is to depart at 5:00 pm, we need to adjust the schedule accordingly. The new keyonote slot will be Sunday 1:45-3:15, and the panels and workshops will work around this time.

Harnessing the Sun 3:30-5:30 Solarc 3:30-5:00 Towards Zero Net 3:30-5:00 Campus Sustainability Tour 3:30-5:00 Natural Building Workshop 11:00-1:30 and then 3:30-5:00 Kids HOPES keynote activities need to be moved back to 1:30, end at 3:30 to line up with keynote

Sarah Bonnemaison would like to take part in Mud & Bricks Panel, but this does not work with her departure time, so she will not be able to participate.

Martha Bohm: The event will happen, so don't worry. kick back and enjoy the parties because Saturday is going to be very busy. Don't forget that even though you will be tired on Sunday, we have to clean up Lawrence, so make sure that we rally volunteers to help. Make sure you get enough people to work putting out chairs. Get enough people to help perhaps 12 people to help set up and break down. This is important! Keys! WHO HAS THEM. This is really an issue that you can't overlook. Last year, LA 100 was storage for all registration stuff.

  • Advisory Council meeting Wednesday at 12 -1...we will ask how things are going compared to previous year...how do we stand?
    • where do we go from here?

    • maybe have contact for non-HOPES events...
    • unmet need for someone like them to be at our conference...defer for now, look into later.

Should we be socializing more? Fat Tuesday beers tonight…or green drinks coming soon, March 3rd at Lilith’s Lair.

Are office hours really happening? Do we need to change them, why are people not showing up? Should we change the schedule? Seb: Maybe we should just continue since the term is almost over, and next term we can make the changes we need to.

Fundraising…we have reschedule our goal and above!!

Jess Parker needs a couple people for tabling this weekend at the law school conference.

Jesse needs people to make the ECAFF hearing at 3:15 on Friday at the EMU.

Kaarin to write Green Report?

Chris talks about stipends… Stipends come out of financial aid reward, so we should be switching over to not affect one person more than the other’s financial aid rewards. Some people will not be affected.
