An effective response to the growing world-wide ecological crisis will require the participation not only of scientists, economists, and policy-makers, but also the world's religious communities. Many religious communities around the world are doing remarkable work to bring healing and restoration to people and land. This talk will highlight some of the ethical and spiritual approaches that are being undertaken by various faith communities in an effort to transform our ecological attitudes and practices.

This speech is the opening keynote for the "Ethics, Religion, and the Environment" Symposium sponsored by the Center for Intercultural Dialogue. An opening reception for the Symposium will be held at 6 pm in the Lillis Atrium.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to promote sustainable living? The Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Living (CASL) will celebrate Earth Day by breaking ground to a new resource center on April 22. CASL members will conduct tours, workshops and activities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The highlight of the evening will be the groundbreaking ceremony at 5 p.m. with Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy, followed by dinner and live music.

Come celebrate a groundbreaking that has been six years in the making! We would be honored to have your attendance at this event.

The cost is free, but donations are accepted to fund the center’s construction. CASL’s low-impact center, located at 1801 Moss St., will serve as a resource center for University of Oregon students and community members when it is complete in 2010.

All around the world, people who work in sustainable development meet up once a month for informal sessions known as Green Drinks. Eugene is one of the greenest cities in the US and it's time for the first of many Green Drinks. We would like to include students from the university (primarily targeting MBA, Law, 3PM, and Arch) as well as professionals from the community. It'll be a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone is encouraged to invite someone else along. We're hoping to draw a diverse and interesting crowd. Green Drinks is an organic, self-organizing network.... and it should be a blast! Hope to see you there.

Robert Young, a PPPM Professor, is speaking for the environmental speaker series on...

Both the American and global societies are currently engaged in major transitions in regard to energy use, urban design, governance and the relationship between humans and the environment. Planning and policy research and its connection to practice will have a major influence over the extent to which these transitions help build a sustainable society or lead to decline of quality of life and future opportunity. We will discuss this role for research as society moves beyond the age of pilot projects and experimentation toward mainstreaming previously "alternative" policies.

Refreshments will be provided.
